I like to participate in life rather than be a spectator. Music, dancing, theatre, travelling, food, cycling and walking are some of my passions. Writing is an enjoyable pastime that allows me to share my experiences.

Pop In At This Park Pop Up
Since May 4 a great little pop up cafe, Lil Miss Collins, has been operating daily in Prince Alfred Park, Parramatta. Here on a trial basis for 3 months the converted shipping container is a great place for families to enjoy refreshments whilst in the park. The location makes it pet and child friendly and the novelty of the 'farmhouse' adds an attraction to this part of Parramatta. Parking is available nearby, there is an adjacent bus stop and Parramatta station is quite close and it is a short bike ride away from Parramatta Park.

Lunch in a park

The menu is comprised of healthy, organic, tasty options for breakfast and lunch. Most dishes are available as take away and there are a variety of vegetarian and gluten free options. Our choice of mains were delicious with tasty touches such as black sesame chats and horseradish lemon curd and the coffee was good.

Ocean trout with a poached egg

The trout was cooked well and the poached egg provided a rich creamy sauce for the dish.

Grilled haloumi salad

The vegetarian haloumi salad contained a variety of flavours and textures that went very well together. Grilled broccolini, spiced almonds, kale, and baby beetroot were combined with labna and the house dressing.

The rustic seating is outdoor, they provide a play area with toys for children and the table service is happy and friendly. I would imagine that weekday morning clientele would be young families and playgroups. On weekends there is a mix of passing cyclists, groups of young people and families enjoying the lovely setting and great food and coffee.

When out riding we are always on the lookout for places where we can have a healthy lunch in sight of our bikes and where our sweaty appearance does not offend other patrons. Lil Miss Collins fit this bill except that due to the constraints of their temporary location tap water is unavailable and I don't think they have toilet facilities.
