Vivid Sydney, the annual kaleidoscope of light, music and ideas, is gearing up for this year's vibrant celebration from Friday 23rd May to Monday 9th June. Be prepared to be amazed as the city is transformed and illuminated for Vivid Light, with a host of sound and light installations and projections in popular locations all around the city.
This year's highlight will undoubtedly be Lighting The Sails, as a part of Vivid LIVE, the pinnacle of Sydney Opera House's annual program of contemporary music. In a bold and innovative move Vivid LIVE has commissioned award-winning international artists 59 Productions to create a stunning new light show to be projected on to the iconic background of the Sydney Opera House sails. Anyone who saw the lightshow spectacular as part of last year's International Fleet Review will know what a dazzling canvas for visual art the Opera House really is.
[ADVERT]Known best for their amazing work on the opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and the Broadway and West-End record-breaking productions of War Horse, 59 Productions have also successfully undertaken projects like creating live feature films on stage and animating the works of master artists.
The exciting show they have devised for Vivid is reported to be a visual walk through time and history, "from the birth of architecture and civilization through to the pinnacle of human and technological achievement". The team behind this spectacular is creative director Leo Warner and producer Richard Slaney, with animation provided by Zsolt Balogh, Jarek Radecki and Nicol Scott.
You can join the millions of people who have seen the incredible creative works of 59 Productions in a money-can't-buy experience that will bring one of the world's most loved and recognisable buildings to life.
And money really can't buy this experience because it's FREE. Those soaring sails will light up every evening from 23rd May to 9th June from 6pm to midnight and you'll be able to see them from a host of vantage points around the city.
