Cancer is a deadly group of diseases plaguing many people in Australia. Blood cancer and related blood disorders alone claim more than 60,000 and every day, another 31 people join the bandwagon. According to the Leukaemia Foundation, South Australia has the highest rate of leukaemia in Australia at 15.6 cases per 100,000 people and also Multiple Myeloma at 6 cases per 100,000 people.

The Foundation raises funds for research through its 'Light The Night' each year in hope that one day a cure can be found for everyone with leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma. This unique event is characterised by hand-held lanterns of blue, white and gold and a mass walk at twilight to support the present-day victims and remember past sufferers. It is open to everyone, young and old and of any fitness level as the leisurely walk takes less than an hour to complete. There are also stalls providing food and drinks to accompany the FREE live entertainment.

Light the Night' is the only twilight lantern walk which offers an enjoyable evening out while helping a good cause. Instead of staying home and hugging the television on 17 September, get out and support Australia's only national not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the care and cure of patients and families living with leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders. Rally your family and friends, grab a lantern or two and take a walk in Elder Park. Simply visit the website to register. For more details, phone: 1800 500 088. And if you can't attend the walk, spread the word by sharing this article around.
