Cancer is a deadly group of diseases affecting many people around the country. Blood cancer and related blood disorders alone claim more than 60,000 each year, and every day another 31 people join the bandwagon in Australia . 42 people are diagnosed with leukaemia every week according to the Leukaemia Foundation. As that number continues to rise and the direct government funding is nearly non-existent, the Foundation relies on community-minded organisations and individuals for financial support on the Gold Coast .



One of the ways it raises funds for patient care and research is through its 'Light The Night' each year. The annual event is characterised by hand-held lanterns of blue, white and gold and a mass walk at twilight to support the present-day victims and remember past sufferers. You may think that the Mid-Autumn Festival has returned to Brisbane with this unique lantern event.



Light the Night' is the only twilight lantern walk which offers an enjoyable evening out while supporting a hope that one day a cure can be found for everyone with leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma. It is open to everyone, young and old and of any fitness level as the leisurely walk takes less than an hour to complete. There are also stalls providing food and drinks to accompany the FREE live entertainment.



Instead of staying home in front of the television on 15 October, enjoy a Spring evening outdoors in Southport and support the only national not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the care and cure of patients and families living with leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders in Australia.
