The Royal Queensland Art Society is proudly presenting their latest exhibition Light & Dark this Autumn. The title of the exhibition refers to general artistic interpretations of light and dark in art but also in reference to mental health.
Australian artist Wendy Sharpe will be a guest artist for a period of the exhibition and has kindly donated a print 'Christmas Eve Suai' for auction on opening night and will also have artwork for sale. In 1999, Sharpe was appointed official war artist during the Australian military role in East Timor, through the Australian War Memorial, Canberra. She was the first female artist to be appointed in this role since the Second World War.
Veterans Art have also offered an artwork for auction on opening night, which is a collaboration of work by returned soldiers. All funds will be donated to 42 to 42.
Light and Dark will be open for viewing from 15 April 2021 to 2 May 2021 at Royal Queensland Art Society, Petrie Terrace Gallery, Unit 3, 162 Petrie Tce, Brisbane Qld 4000.
Gallery Opening Times are Tuesday to Sunday 10 am - 3.30 pm.
The exhibition will be complemented by three exciting fundraising events with 50% of cover charge and proceeds from the auction to be donated to 42 for 42, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to helping Australian soldiers, veterans and families from the Afghanistan war, by building a community to help them in life.
About 42 for 42
42 for 42 is a not-for-profit organisation which was founded by ex-Army veterans whose aim is to help struggling veterans and their families by building a memorial dedicated to those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
The 42 stands for the 41 veterans who were killed in Afghanistan, with the 42nd representing the veterans we have lost and continue to lose to suicide and those who have returned with injuries and mental illness.
