If you've been missing Lifeline Harbour to Hawkesbury's amazing book fairs on the North Shore – and who hasn't? – then we have some exciting news for you!

Pandemic restrictions may have forced the cancellation of many of Lifeline H2H's vital community fundraising events, but it hasn't stopped them from opening COVID-safe pop-up book stores in the area – first in Roseville (since closed), and now in Hornsby and in Lindfield, on the site once occupied by the much-loved Lindfield Bookshop.

"I made a call to Lifeline when I was feeling very, very suicidal. I could barely speak, but a volunteer spoke to me until I calmed down and felt safe again. I want her to know that I am ok, and that I am here now because of her. I owe her my life."

"In times when the world seems to crash down around you, never be afraid to reach out to Lifeline for help and support. I felt lost and frustrated. I was afraid of how vulnerable I felt and didn't like it. My call was taken by someone who cared, and I needed to release how overwhelmed I felt. I will never regret making that call. Thank you for being there."

Volunteers set up in preparation for 13 October opening day of Hornsby Pop-up Book Shop

Which means that past and new supporters of Lifeline can now purchase from the same massive range of high-quality, low-priced books – as well as DVDs, CDs, vinyls, comics and computer games – that have always been offered at their famous books fairs.

All carefully selected pre-loved items are in good or excellent condition, and books are sorted into more than 50 categories – including children's and young adult, popular and literary fiction, memoir and biography, classics, art, history, military, science and nature, travel, music, graphic novels, cookery, gardening, craft, textbooks and study guides. Stock is replenished daily, so return visits are a must.

Whether you're a bibliophile, a collector, or you just love reading/films/music, there's something for everyone at Lifeline's Pop-up Book Shops. Do pop in and bring the whole family – but don't wait. These pop-ups won't last forever, so grab your bargains while you can.

"I just had an online discussion [with Lifeline]. I am really grateful of the services that they provided me and how I can get access to professional help. I also felt like I was not judged and I could focus on how to deal with my emotions. Thank you."

"Thank you to the gentleman who took my call. I am so very grateful."

All proceeds raised by Lifeline's Pop-up Book Shops go towards funding Lifeline Harbour to Hawkesbury's comprehensive suite of crisis support and suicide prevention services. Lifeline H2H thanks all customers and donors for their much-valued support and generosity in helping them help others.
