We all know of the Lifeline stores, whether we buy from them, donate to them or just know they function something like Vinnies. That is, they collect secondhand items and sell them to the public at very cheap prices. In the case of Lifeline, the money raised is used to help fund vital 24-hour telephone counselling services .

You can contribute to this great cause - and get yourself some cheap books - by attending one of the Lifeline book sales that will be held by the Lifeline Harbour to Hawkesbury division throughout the rest of the year. These sales usually don't sell books any cheaper than they cost in normal Lifeline stores but you do have a larger variety to choose from.

There are four sales left in 2012.

July

In July, there will be a sale on at Knox Grammar School, Pacific Highway, Wahroonga. It will take place on Thursday and Friday, July 12-13, between 9am and 9pm, and Saturday and Sunday, July 14-15, between 9am and 5pm.

August

There will be a $1 clearance sale at the Former Scout Hall on the corner of Polding Road and Ignatius Road, West Lindfield on Saturday and Sunday, August 18-19, 9am to 4pm. All books here will be $1. You can't get cheaper than that!

November

There will also be a sale held at Hunters Hill Town Halll, Alexandra Street, Hunters Hill on Saturday and Sunday, November 10-11, 9am to 5pm.

December

Lastly, a $2 fiction sale will be held at the Former Scout Hall on the corner of Polding Road and Ignatius Road, West Lindfield on Saturay and Sunday, December 1-2, between 9am to 4pm. A normal fiction book usually costs upwards of $20. You can get ten books here for that price!

The last two sales even offer you a chance to do your Christmas shopping at bargain prices. While many of the books Lifeline sells are visibly old, others look brand new and so no-one will know you only paid a few dollars for the present! You could even buy a number of books and look particularly generous.

I recommend getting to each sale early because the best books go quickly. You should also be prepared for a lot of people trying to fit into a small space and converging around large tables full of books. Not everyone remembers their manners in these circumstances.

If you would like to #donation ">donate books to Lifeline Harbour and Hawkesbury there are two locations where you can drop your books off. First, you can donate your books at the rear of the Former Scout Hall in West Lindfield (on the corner of Polding and Ignatius Roads), Monday to Thursday, between 10am and 3pm. Alternatively, you can donate them in the shed of the Pearson Avenue carpark (off Park Avenue) at Gordon, which is open all hours. But remember, Lifeline does not accept encyclopaedias, Readers Digest or National Geographic.
