Become a master painter in just 2 hours
Move over Da Vinci, I have found my creative bone and am taking the creative world by storm thanks to the guys and gals at Life With Paint.
Well, what is Life With Paint you ask? I'm glad you asked, because until recently I didn't know either. Basically 'Life With Paint' is a fun night out with a group of friends or if you are flying solo, and you walk away with a self-painted masterpiece on canvas even if you are not a natural artist. In fact if you are like me, who hasn't picked up a paint brush since year 8 art class, you will be thoroughly impressed with yourself, I promise. During the two hour event a host artist and assistant will offer a step-by-step instructions on how to create a 16x20" reproduction of the night's chosen artwork and there are plenty of paintings to choose from on their website.
The classes are run all around Melbourne (and other states) at local pubs and easy to get to by car or public transport. Most classes start officially at 7pm, but they encourage you to show up at 6pm and have a delicious pub meal. Or if you are running late and are awesome at multi-tasking, eat your hearty beef burger with one hand, while painting your master piece with the other. All classes have a private function room away from the general public but being in a pub, it still has a laid back vibe, and whilst you are painting there is an array of tunes (mostly the best of 90s which I loved, and based on the sing-a-longs that broke out, it seemed a popular era) playing in the background.
The original paintings we were hoping to replicate
I've now have attended twice for 2 different paintings and although no one is paying for my creations, I think my "masterpieces" might just be passable to hang in my house. In all honesty you don't need to naturally have a creative streak to be good as the instructions are clear and broken down in very simple steps. The only tricky part of the paintings I would have to say were the trees, perhaps that was the only time one's ability to hold a brush came in handy because the better you were at using a paint brush, the daintier the tree branches were. But who's looking for perfection! Aim for progress and a night of fun and maybe because the creative side of my brain was activate I left feeling a bit more Zen and chilled after a day of work.
Success, my sister and I posing with our finished "masterpieces"
On the night you just have to show up, all materials are provided, including the paint brushes, canvas, paints, easel and even an apron to protect your clothing from the possibly splatter of paint.
Ticket prices are $50 and includes all instruction and art materials.
From time to time they also offer discount tickets through coupon sites and social media, so make sure you keep an eye out for that.
Note: Food and drink are extra and are not included in the ticket price.
If you like it enough, you might want to make a private booking for team building events, fundraisers and parties at home. So even if your just a bit curious about your artistic ability and remember a time when finger painting and art classes were the best things to experience, step outside of your normal routine and book a class or two.
