One of the biggest highlights of my summer childhoods spent on the Mornington Peninsula revolved around the local surf life saving club's nipper program for 8-14 year olds.
Every year my new nipper comrades and I would brave the early morning chill to spend two hours participating in an endless number for beach activities; from beach flags to paddle boarding to swimming to learning about rips and shore breaks. Nippers was a great way to have gain a better understanding of how to stay safe on the beach and how to have fun at the same time.
There are a number of different programs throughout Victoria. From the bay clubs of Mentone, Half-Moon Bay and Frankston to the surf clubs such as Lorne on the Surf Coast, Sorrento on the Mornington Peninsula and Woolami on Phillip Island and every place in between there is a club and a nipper program for everyone.
