Lieutenant Jangles is set in the mid-'80s in Brisbane City, where the crime is at an all-time high. Gangs have taken over the streets and it becomes apparent that an organised criminal element is at work. Lieutenant Jangles wears his 'cowboy' hat to the extreme with his questionable police work as he leaves behind a rising body count and serious damages causing the taxpayers a whole lot of dollars. His forays into cleaning up crime unintentionally come to the attention of 'The Baron' who wants him out of the picture so he can get on with his evil intentions. However, Jangles has a huge score to settle and he's going to be a force to be reckoned with. Is he really the answer to the scales of justice?

This Australian film is directed and written by Nic Champeaux and Daniel Cordery, and stars Matt Dickie, Justin Gerardin, Daniel Mulhall, Graham K Furness, Jack McGirr and Tamara McLaughlin, with co-writer/director Daniel Cordery making an appearance as Mark - 'Chopper' Read. Umbrella Entertainment released it on Blu-ray with all the whizz-bang as a Definitive Collectors Edition which included brand new artwork and a slip-cover, and a double-sided poster. The film itself was taken apart and put back together, completely re-edited with updated VFX, polished sound mix, new jokes and fresh colour grade. There's also almost 3 hours of bonus features and lots of 'never before seen' footage and content, including extra stories and bloopers cut from the making-of documentary. It sold out quick smart. I can understand why, as it's highly unlikely a film like this has ever been made before and will ever be made again.

Lieutenant Jangles is going to mess you up in all kinds of ways. It depends on how much you can stomach - to love this film. Spoof, absurdist comedy, distasteful, cult film in the making, super cringe-worthy, so horrible it's brilliant, incredibly stupid and wildly entertaining, all come to mind. It will definitely shock and offend some. That perhaps will probably make you want to watch it even more for yourself to form your own opinion, and perhaps that is the brilliance of this production. By now, you might have guessed it is totally R Rated with strong violence, language, nudity and sex, and the film shies away from none of it. However the film does move at a good solid pace, with a soundtrack that feels retro, and actors that you could actually warm up to - shock, horror. Quite an achievement for a directorial debut.

Though the film comes across as a low-budget, B-grade movie, it actually knows exactly where it's going and who its audience is. It may not be for everyone with its toilet humour and jokes about the male genitalia, but some of you may have a blast with it. You already have the outline of the story, and I won't spoil it by adding any more than has been written. I suggest you put off reading anything about it, brace yourself, and watch it. You have been warned. You're going to walk out wondering what just hit you, or wear a smile that goes from ear to ear.
