Lick! is what happens when a fine dining chef decides to start making ice cream. In its 13 years of operation, Lick! has created 600 different flavours, supplied over 100 restaurants in South East Queensland and finally opened a second shop in Morningside. Head here for amazing and special ice cream flavours, perfect sorbets and a selection of desserts.
Lick! ice creams famous selection of great unique flavours
Grant Lew, a Brisbane boy who made good, worked in fine dining restaurants in Brisbane and abroad before returning and deciding to make his own high-quality handmade ice cream. Lick! quickly became a Brisbane institution, working closely with restaurants and other retail outlets to create the right flavour for the situation. In fact, Lick! even worked with Ekka to revamp its famous strawberry ice cream sundaes.
There are two types of flavours that Lick produces. There are those that are merely delicious great quality ice cream. I use the word merely because since Lick!'s opening, quality ice cream is widely available around Brisbane. But Lick! still stands up above the rest in this regard.
The sorbets as well are by far one of the best in Brisbane. They have no dairy, eggs, nuts, milk or gluten but still possess that special creamy nature. You don't have to be on a special diet to want to eat these.
Grant has an attitude of experimentation and play when it comes to flavours coupled with the modern culinary mindset that food should be designed to challenge our taste buds. That is, when one eats something, it should also make them think a little. With many Lick! flavours, this is achieved.
There is Dark Chocolate that has the element of bitterness that dark chocolate lovers crave and Cookie Dough ice cream that makes you check your back in case your mother is going to hit you with a spoon for eating from the mixing bowl before she has a chance to bake any biscuits.
Other flavours that stand out in this way include Spiced Suttons Apple Cider, Salted Nut Brown Butter and Roasted Almond, and Caramelised Condensed Milk. Care is always taken to balance flavours to avoid being too sweet or overpowering.
Having made over 600 different flavours, Lick! has items found in other locations around South East Queensland, such as the Shiraz and Raisin ice cream served at a winery. Then there are always special flavours, such as at Christmas, they might serve Gingerbread ice cream.
The Doffle is a Lick! ice cream unique product. It is a baked waffle made from doughnut dough. This is served topped with ice cream, sauces and flavours.

I am a bit in two minds about the Doffles. It does turn the ice cream into a nice dessert. On the other hand, the ice cream itself is so nice, it is worthwhile just having the ice cream by itself. However, the way the Doffles are created, it is about extending and complementing that flavour. Choose either the classic pair or one of the individual scoop Dodffles.
Lick! also does a wide range of ice cream-based desserts worthy of a top restaurant. The Hellooo Chocolate is probably their most famous creation with chocolate ice cream and chocolate sorbet, served on a chocolate fudge brownie with melted chocolate and sprinkled with chocolate.

But other options include the Lickamisu, Banana Split, and Lick! Ice Cream Sandwich. For those few colder months in Brisbane, there is also the Warm Apple Crumble served with apple cider ice cream.
There's also a wide selection of drinks available. Coffee is a great option, though personally, I like that they have homemade iced tea, which complements the sweet ice cream and dessert. Of course, you could just have a milkshake, fruit frappe or ice cream spider.
Located on the corner of Wynnum Road and Redfern Street in Morningside near the train station, it definitely isn't your average corner ice cream shop. There is plenty of parking in the area, with the best place being the strip mall just behind the shop. Though you can probably also find street parking off Redfern Street as well.
Lick! ice cream, not your run of the mill corner ice cream bar
Lick! understands that ice cream is for any time and opens late. Normally it closes at 9:30 pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, and 11:30 pm on Friday and Saturday. So instead of heading for a cafe or bar, why not end the evening with ice cream at Lick!
What can I say. People already travel from all over South East Queensland to come to Lick! in Graceville. The new location will certainly bring in even more devotees. Given that they regularly have new flavours, you can come in for your favourite ice cream or return ready to try something new. For lovers of ice cream, flavour, quality or innovation.
During the day most people grab and go an ice cream cup or cone. In the evening, I think that more people come here to sit down and enjoy a dessert or share an ice cream.
