Melbourne's most modern public library will open its doors in the most spectacular waterfront setting of Docklands on 31 May 2014. Library at the Dock will serve as the area's new community hub and be a place of inspiration for students and families. It contains a recording studio, performance space, children's library and the digital, music and entertainment collections.
The library opening features a packed program of events. Activities and programmes include tours of the spaces, 3D printing demonstrations, music production workshops, dance performances and technology activities. It is also timed with the inaugural Melbourne UNESCO City of Literature Oration, which celebrates Melbourne's status as a UNESCO City of Literature.
Tram commuters heading into Docklands throughout May will also be treated to a range of performances demonstrating the diversity of offerings at the new Library at The Dock, including dance and choir performances as part of the opening.
