It's a magnificent building - 3 floors - a beacon for the future of how libraries might be. When we hear so much about how our local libraries are under funding threat it is nice to see a beacon of light. Perhaps this how council libraries might be able to configure themselves to meet the needs of future generations.
The library at the Docklands is part of the Melbourne Library Service - which has will have 6 branches at the time of completion of this branch.
Getting to the Dockland's library on foot - an easy walk from Southern Cross Station or if going by tram catch the Tram on Collins Street from City numbers - 30 or 48
There was a great deal of excitement expressed by the staff of the library when we spoke about the library, young vibrant. They talked about borrowing ebooks on line, downloading audio bookings to listen to. There's lots going on. You don't have to live in the Docklands or the CBD to be a member so get along to open day or any other day and see what the library can offer you!
