Situated between Wickham Street and Ann Street, Happy Boy offers indoor and outdoor, casual, tasty dining for small and large groups.
We stopped in for lunch without a booking and were seated straight away. The atmosphere is canteen style, noisy - in a good way - a hive of activity with busy diners and waitstaff alike. This is a functional setting for casual catch ups, quick food and efficient customer service.
Feeling hungry, we opted for the $45 banquet over the $35 option and mentioned "no tofu" to which the waitress was understanding. Their banquet offering makes plain sense and delivers on its promise.
Food came out in two swift rounds - kicking off with vego spring rolls, Taiwanese crispy chicken buns and dumplings - all bang on. Second round delivered crispy green beans, fried rice with duck, braised pork belly, beef brisket with some cute 'noodle knots', crispy Peking duck and salt and pepper prawns.
Why? Asian flavours delivered well in a canteen style setting. Efficient and delicious, food and beers alike.
