Be Lured by Leura's Quirky Garage-Style European Cafe
This is one place not to be missed if you are in the Blue Mountain area. The quality and deliciousness of the dishes will surpass a lot of the so-called 'fine-dining' restaurants in Sydney.
Leura Garage is a small casual-dining cafe located in the beautiful village of Leura. As the name suggests it is operated within a former auto-mechanic garage and it has a cool funky old garage fit-out. To continue with the theme and the feel of the place, the waitstaff all wear mechanic uniforms and turn it into a cool, trendy cafe.
When we walked in, the cafe's atmosphere was buzzy and vibrant, the staff were busy serving fresh, delicious looking dishes and we smiled with eagerness. We were greeted by a lovely staff almost immediately and she efficiently found a table for us, despite us not making a booking beforehand.
The menu looked remarkable and Leura Garage aimed to serve simple, good quality, and tasty food.
Glass of Leura Garage House - Crisp Rose from Orange
We leisurely sipped a glass of Rose while browsing the menu. The staff highly recommended the "Boards Selections", where they came in different varieties such as Meat, Ocean and Vegetarian. We saw a staff walk pass with one of the mouth-watering Boards and immediately we wanted one, too.
We started with a well-stocked Ocean Board ($34). We were surprised to see such generous serving portion and wowed by the super fresh assorted seafood.
There were large plump black mussels, fresh calamari and prawns, white anchovy fillets, spiced grilled scallops, cured salmon ribbons and large oysters in vinaigrette dressing & salmon cavaliers. It was elegantly decorated with micro herbs, baby pink radish, rocket and a wedge of lemon. It was served with fresh soft baguette bread drizzle in light olive oil. There was plentiful of seafood on this large wooden board.
The board was so good. Everything was very tasty and well presented. We collectively agreed that this was a stand-out dish.
The other table ordered a Meat Board and it, too, looked as appetizing as our Ocean Board.
We also ordered a 10 inch Trunkey Ham, Chorizo & Peppi Pizza. It was freshly made using the finest "00" organic, unbleached and stone-ground flour and baked directly on red hot stones.
I absolutely loved this pizza. It was flavorsome with some kick of spice. The toppings were generous and the base was thin and crispy. It was a perfectly cooked pizza and filled with oozy delicious goodness. A pure sensational meal.
We slightly over-ordered but we did not regret ordering this Chicken Souvlaki ($20). It was a gigantic chicken wrap dressed with eggplant caviar, creamy garlic yoghurt and sumac pickled onions. Served with fresh rocket & homemade dukkah bread.
This must be the dish of the day, almost every second table ordered this amazing chicken souvlaki. The chicken was super tender and moist and we could not stop eating.
Leura Garage 's is an down-to earth cafe with plenty of smiles and good food to share. It is not too far out of the Blue Mountain and I would detour to this place whenever I travel to the blue mountains.
The price is slightly on the high-side but given the quality, the care that was put into preparing the food, the relaxing ambience and friendly service, I think it is worth it.
A perfect casual getaway dining place over the October long weekend.
