Over 4 days, the contemporary artist will invite the wider community into her home and private studio instead of paying a commission to a gallery, allowing visitors to enjoy her art in an intimate space and also have a coffee and a chat.
Leonie hosted a similar event last year and raised over $1,100 for Impact, a charity that raises money for victims of domestic violence. This year Leonie has chosen to support two different charities; Stand Up, a non-profit organisation dedicated to pursuing social justice for disadvantaged communities in Australia, and Kedem, a progressive synagogue committed to fostering a community of tolerance, inclusiveness and equality.
As part of the Open House event Leonie will also be holding a competition to win $180 towards the purchase of any of her artworks. Simply come along and subscribe to her mailing list to enter the draw.
A self-taught artist, Leonie was born and raised in Melbourne. She found her creative passion after having to resign from her career as a medical practitioner and hypnotherapist to care for her daughter who was unwell.
Thankfully her daughter's illness has since improved and this challenging time in her family's life opened the door to a creative path down which Leonie's true passion lies.
"My life has taken many different paths," admits Leonie. "I am a doctor, hypnotherapist, mother, wife…. and artist. And while all these different elements combine to make up who I am, it is via my art that I connect with the essence of me."
Opening Night will be held on Thursday 19th November 2015 from 7pm to 9pm and the Studio will be open from Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd of November 2015 from 11am to 4pm.
30% of the profits will be donated to Stand Up and Kedem.
