I thought I was just so clever to find these bargain on-line bottles of Sauvignon Blanc. Savvy buy, unbelievable price, so cheap. How many times have I had a dud bottle of
Sauvignon Blanc ? Hardly ever! Safe bet. The wine was duly delivered and I eagerly put a bottle in the fridge in anticipation of savouring my bargain buy with some prawns. Just before serving, I gave it an extra chill by placing it in the freezer for 15 minutes, just the way like it.
I unscrewed and poured. I gave it a sniff and mmmm. A sip and mmmm. Another sip. So, only another 11 to go eh? It was frankly disappointing. A dud. I didn't feel such a genius but then, I had an
Einstein moment.
Many a Sauvignon Blanc describe themselves as having
lemongrass characteristics. What would happen if I placed a stalk of lemongrass in the bottle and let it infuse over night? I might just be able to save my sad Sauvignon Blanc. So I dashed out to my veggie patch and harvested a stalk. I gave it a brutal bruising with a cleaver and placed the stalk in the bottle and put it back in the fridge.
Next day, I sampled the results of my experiment and voilĂ ! Success. A taste sensation. Sheer Genius.
So, my cheapskate Sauvignon Blancers, if you buy just one dud or a dozen dud bottles of Sauvignon Blanc, don't despair. You can save the day by trying the lemongrass infused Sauvignon Blanc trick and then tell your friends what a genius you are.
