In Lemonade: 50 Cool Recipes for Classic, Flavored, and Hard Lemonades and Sparklers, by Fred Thompson, the author commented about his younger years when he would have lemonade stands. His mother would help out with having "change money" and baking cookies. His father would buy the last remaining cookies. To celebrate, Thompson's father would prepare some limeade, whose recipe is in the book.

Thompson states that lemonade binds people together and thus wrote this book.

In Summary

The basics on page eight (8) explains a major question which is whether or not to use reconstituted lemon juice to make lemonade. Thompson says no. However, the author does go on to say to play with lemonade.

The following cover his recipes to get a taste, from the classics to the whacky.

The recipes go from super easy "lemon concentrate" to "old-fashioned lemonade" and to "Mediterranean-style lemonade".

Fruit-seduced lemonade means when you mix the lemons with other fruits - you get the best of both. The recipes included are "raspberry lemonade", "blackberry lemonade", "57th street blueberry lemonade", "tailgate spiced cranberry lemonade", etc.

Sparkling lemonade means carbonated and cool. Recipes include "lime and lemonade cooler" and "cran-orange lemonade".

The new-fashioned lemonade all bring a new dimension to an old favorite and the latest twist. The recipes include "vanilla bean lemonade", "citron au chocolat", "New England lemonade", "lemonade milkshake" and "cucumber lemonade".

Lemonade with adult flavors may still be prepared without alcohol. Recipes include "wicked pink lady lemonade" and "rum runner's lemonade".

In Closing

Thompson's book was easy to follow and he has answered my question about reconstituted lemon juice. Another question I have is whether or not to use lemonade Kool-Aid packets when low on money. Lemons around here are always expensive and squeezing them is a task. The author has inspired me to pay attention to sales and maybe even ask the grocery store manager for the next sale. My hopes are to be able to make lemonade like the vendors do at a county fair.

I give this book a 5-star rating.
