I am an academic and writer living in Melbourne. I love to travel and I also love writing about all the things Melbourne, regional Victoria and other parts of Australia have to offer.

Italians do it best
Italian food made from scratch, by chefs who care what they create - so says the motto of this lovely authentic restaurant on Flinders Lane in the middle of Melbourne CBD.
The specialty is of course pasta, even though there are lots of other Italian specialties to be had - from breakfast to antipasto to meat and fish dishes too. But is the pasta that stands out, for this writer anyway. Pasta which is prepared from scratch each day in the kitchen, using a special sprouted, germinated flour to give it lower gluten content and an authentic Italian flavour.
A distinct Sardinian influence can be found in pasta dishes such as Breadcrumb Maltagliati with King Prawns, saffron, fennel, cherry tomatos and chilli ($29). This dish was superb with the breadcrumbs in the actual pasta, giving it an extra texture and complemented by all the other ingredients. The Tagliolini Con Coniglio or Taglioni with rabbit was excellent according to my Italian foodie friend.
There are pasta dishes, main courses and pizzas all cooked fresh and to perfection. If you are a group of friends for dinner, you may want to consider the Feed me option ($65pp) of 7 shared courses-3 entrees, 2 main courses and 2 desserts which you choose from the menu. The 5 course selection costs $59. This is a great way to try more dishes and we were certainly very full at the end but enjoyed every morsel of the selected dishes.
You can check out the menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner here.
The ambiance and staff complete the authenticity of this restaurant. Dramatic black and white photographs of Italy and her people, a big window where you can watch pasta making, cooking and preparations and friendly staff all add to a very pleasant experience, besides the delicious food.
Typical Italian aperitifs such as Negroni, Bellini and Aperol as well as mixed drinks, a wine list with Australian and Italian wines make sure your food is accompanied by the requisite beverage. You can also book for functions and events and they have a special NYE dinner on December 31st.
