As Christmas approaches now is the time to start looking for something special for our loved ones. I hate fighting my way through crowds of last minute shoppers in stores on Rundle Mall, and prefer to find markets offering quality handmade goods, and creations made personally with a little love.

This year you have an alternative. Why wait until the last minute when you can stop by the at your convenience? This new market in Adelaide runs for six weeks of Saturdays in the lead up to Christmas. It kicks off on November 18 - the day of the Christmas Pageant, and continues right up until December 23.

Leigh Street is a lovely shaded enclave off Hindley Street without the hassle of regular car traffic. It's the perfect place to relax and do a little Christmas shopping, and allows you to finish off with some great coffee or fine food and wine.

The brings a special selection of handmade and artisan goods, arts and crafts, beautiful handcrafted jewellery, and other assorted beautiful things. The market stall vendors will be selling everything from pressed glass by Billy Crellin , terrariums by Planted Vessels , handcrafted soaps by Birds of Paradise Soap Studio , candles and aromatherapy by Saffron Moon , handcrafted jewellery by Hummingpea , and beautiful things from thingshttps://www.facebook.com/ziniakingsthings Zinia Kings .

Of course there will be plenty more market stalls with new artisans displaying their goodies each week, so you will need to check back regularly to find out what's happening. One thing that is important is that all the market stalls will be supporting South Australian brands and crafts, so you're helping local people with your Christmas gift purchases.

is a family event, so you can be sure to find some terrific free activities for kids if you have brought them too. Free live entertainment will bring this market in Adelaide CBD alive, so there's no need to listen to boring repetitions of Christmas carols at your local Big W.

With Leigh Street being home to some great restaurants and coffee shops, you won't be left parched or hungry. For some very special cakes keep your eyes open for Bella Torte or pick up some stunning sweets by Sucre Patisserie . Those of us who prefer savoury fare will pounce on the Italian street food by Signor Arrosticini .

You can find the pop-up every Saturday from 8am, with amazing entertainers lined up for the live music segment form 10am to 1pm. For more information head over to the Facebook page where you will get the latest news on which market stalls to visit. And remember, there's no need to race home from the Christmas Pageant in a traffic jam - just head down to Leigh Street to continue the fun.
