We were visiting Cloncurry, a far North West Queensland town; 121km from Mount Isa via Barkly Highway or 783km from Townsville via Flinders Highway. We arrived late afternoon and were hungry. One of the ladies at the front desk of
Cloncurry Unearthed Visitor Information Centre & Museum suggested Leichhardt Hotel Cloncurry for child-friendly dining in Cloncurry.
They open for dinner on Mondays to Saturdays from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. It is located next to a drive-through bottleshop and public bar with a games room (with different entrance from the bistro).
It is a family-run business for over 5 decades. We were greeted by the owner who made us welcome, even though we didn't book a table beforehand. While browsing the menu, we noticed the affordable prices.
While waiting for our order to arrive, I had a look around the place. It has simple decor. Green is the dominant colour here, with the carpet and curtains in green. The wall bricks added a rustic and outback feel to the room. The bistro room is quite spacious with enough space between tables. There are two sections of the bistro separated by green curtains. The other room was for private functions. We could see the main drag of Cloncurry from the big window of the bistro.
At last, our order arrived. It was typical pub food with big servings. But the nice waitress who served our food that night made it special and the manager was eager to please all customers.
