With the school holidays looming on the horizon there's no dearth of fun and exciting things lined up to keep the little folk happy and out of trouble. Well, that would be the case in summer, spring, and even autumn. But what about cold, wet, wintry days when you just can't catch a break?

Take the tribe to Australia's only indoor Lego playground, an exciting indoor adventure at the Legoland Discovery Centre in Chadstone, Melbourne. It's aimed at kids 3 to 10years of age and kids under 3 enter free.

The Ultimate Indoor Lego Playground

If you thought this was about kids gathered around a low table building barney, you're way off. Enjoy family fun rides like Kingdom Quest Laser ride and Merlin's Apprentice ride, 4D cinema and eleven Lego build & play zones. They even have master builders giving workshops and building tips.

MINILAND Melbourne

You'll be blown away by the scale of this Lego land. To put things in perspective just imagine a miniature Melbourne CBD built with 1.5 million Lego bricks! It apparently took a team of 15 builders over 5000 hours to get that done. It's called MINILAND and it's interactive as it changes in tune with the time of day. You can catch a game at the MCG or a race at Flemington. See how many landmarks you can identify.

DUPLO Farm Adventure

This is a soft play area for little ones aged 1 to 5 years. Imagine the excitement on their faces when they see a life-size farm, get to sit on animals with sound buttons, muck around in a barn, and of course build with bricks. They have educational activities that introduce kids to science, math, art, and language. Maybe you don't need to wait for schools to close before bringing them here.

Underwater Quest Play Zone

Discover mysterious sea creatures, go treasure hunting, and explore the magical under the sea world, or watch your kids do all of this while you go crazy with the camera. The shark suit guy will be happy to pose with your kids, just don't say, Smile or Cheese.

Lego stores, café, official photos

After all that fun and excitement, you can crash at the Lego-themed café. They have light bites like sandwich, salads, cupcakes and other little treats. The Lego store is stocked with all things Lego including limited edition stuff for collectors. The good news is that you can wander in here at any time and you don't need a ticket. They are open every day at 9.30am and up to 5.30pm on Mondays to Wednesdays, 9pm Thursdays to Saturdays, and up to 7pm on Sundays.

Get tickets online

You'd do well to book your tickets online as that gives you 20% off standard rates. Plus, you can scan your ticket on your mobile and make your entry painless. Also, there's no way you can just rock up and expect to find tickets as they have limited capacity, which is as it should be.

Free entry for kids under 3

Children aged three and under have free entry. All adults must be accompanied by a child under 18 years and vice versa, meaning all children must have an adult aged 18 in tow. If you plan your visit to off-peak hours you get to spend as long as you like but during peak hours your ticket gets you 3hours. You can book your tickets here .
