Legally Blonde at the Sydney Lyric Theatre

Being a big fan of the movie Legally Blonde since I was in my early teens, I was naturally ecstatic to find out that the story of the confident and loveable Elle Woods had been given a musical twist and brought to life on stage. I was even more excited to discover that this Broadway show, winner of seven awards including the Olivier Best New Musical award, was heading to Australia. Starring Lucy Durack and Rob Mills, who co-starred together in Australia's marvellous production of the Broadway musical Wicked, I knew straight away to expect only the highest quality of singing, dancing and acting.

When a trip to Sydney coincided with the last few performances of this hilariously heart-warming stage production, I had no choice but to enter in to the glitzy world of Elle. Sticking very closely to the movie storyline with only slight differences, you embark on a journey with Elle (Durack) and her constant companion Bruiser the Chihuahua, who is played by a real dog even in the live stage show. The story begins with the supposed love of Elle's life, Warner Huntington III (Mills), breaking her heart by saying he wants someone more serious. Ready to fight for love, Elle follows him all the way to Harvard Law School where she discovers exactly what such a beautiful, bubbly blonde is really capable of. The rest of the amusing yet romantic story unfolds through many colourful characters and songs, leaving you wanting more as curtain closes.

After the show I couldn't help but head to the stage door to meet the stars and tell them how brilliant they were. They were all very happy to talk to the fans and pose for photos, meaning I got to speak to Lucy and have a cuddle with Rob. You'll leave the theatre seeing pink, humming the tunes and OMGing! In Sydney it was held at the Lyric Theatre in the Star Complex near Darling Harbour. This is the perfect location for seeing a production in Sydney as it provides a beautiful view of the harbour and boasts endless options for fine dining close by. While Legally Blonde has finished up in Sydney now, you can catch it in Brisbane from March then in Melbourne from May. If you only have room for one gorgeous, inspiring blonde in your life this year, let it be this one!
