Event:
Queen music thundered at innovative cafe

"We are the champions", as we sang out loud and rocked to the magic of Queen, the extraordinary band with irresistible music that has marked generations since the 1970s. We pinched ourselves anticipating the night ahead at Left of Field eatery, immersing ourselves in classic Queen songs, feasting on a superb five-course menu.

Left of Field, an innovative cafe, recently collaborated with N2 Extreme Gelato, creators of decadent gelato using liquid nitrogen. Innovative and decadent equals spectacular.
It was an extravagant and impressive evening with a delicious drink on arrival, rocking tunes by Queen and an outstanding menu appropriate for, well, a Queen. Our first course, appropriately titled "Freddie Mercury chilli with queen's sides", a delightful shared meal of tasty cooked brisket with spices and a side of creme fraiche served with tostadas.

The side dishes arrived and they were very tasty. "Another one bites the broccolini" in a delicious tomato and anchovy butter with toasted almonds; "We will rock you", honey and fennel roast carrots were full of flavour; and the yummy "Bohemian" ratatouille. These personalised accompaniments were an appropriate nod to Queen's rousing music and we all gave a thumbs up for these delectable sides.

The next two courses were served together. "Fahrenheit Man Lamb", African-flavoured lamb shoulder on the bone, was an absolute hit, the lamb deliciously falling apart with each forkful. "Fat Bottom Chicken", a whole roasted chicken in thyme and garlic was delectable. The "royal" cream sauce accompanying this dish was made with Moet and Chandon, a drink favoured by Freddie. This condiment was sensational. I could have slurped the sauce straight from its jug.

During the evening, Queen music exploded through the cafe. When "Bohemian Rhapsody" played, the whole place erupted. Diners sang out loud, bodies swayed, hands moved to imitate the legendary band. "We Will Rock You" was not overlooked. We thumped the tables, clapped hard and shouted out the familiar words known to all Queen fans.

Diners at this feast were chafing at the bit anticipating the final two courses - a dessert collaboration from the legendary Left of Field crew and renowned gelato team, N2 Extreme, who are constantly reinventing traditional gelato. "We are the champions" hotcake with spiced apples and pistachio crumble, a butterscotch sauce and velvety gelato which was moist, fresh and marvellous with each mouthful.

The second dessert, "Stone cold crazy" parfait had layers of vanilla pannacotta, shortbread pecan crumble, moist stewed apples and vanilla gelato. If this was not enough to make one drool with anticipation then add whipped cream to the mix, topped off with the final exquisite dusting of shortbread pecan crumble. It was an interesting mix of flavours. The delicious crunchy crumble gave the parfait a wonderful texture.

Considering there were over sixty diners for this function, the service was spot on - friendly, fun and very professional. Left of Field is a popular cafe, their Pavlova Pancakes a hit. It's a funky eatery with a spacious interior, floor to ceiling windows and greenery hanging from the columns and walls. Left of Field have plans for more exciting evenings, so stay tuned.
