Do yourself a favour and step out of your comfort zone (or back into it). Go see Leather Lungs: Son of a Preacher, at the Brisbane Powerhouse this weekend. Leather Lungs is premiering in Brisbane as part of the Wonderland Festival at Brisbane Powerhouse and promises an adventure that will leave you toe tapping and smiling for days afterwards. Walk past pop up bars, jitterbugging, girls in dresses reminiscent of Ziegfeld follies and find your way to Leather Lungs.
Leather lungs is a return to the true essence of cabaret. The promo told us that "Leather Lungs crosses with religion, fistfights with anxiety and scissors with sexuality and discos" and it did... but it was the sheer range of mood and songs that captivated us. Jason Chasland is brilliant in this one man show. His vocal range was astounding and his dance so outrageous, you won't stop laughing, clapping and singing along.
An added pleasure was his warm introduction of his family to the audience. It is not often you get to meet the proud parents of such a wonderful performer. I cannot recommend it enough to anyone seeking a good night out. Start with this one-hour cabaret and then enjoy the wonderful surrounds of the Powerhouse. Parking on site was free.
