Sydney Shiva Yoga centre is hosting a 'Learn to Meditate' workshop at Benledi House on Sunday 9 February 2014 from 10.30am to 1pm.

The workshop will be taught by Swami Sharadananda, a long-standing student of Mahamandaleshwar Swami Shankarananda (Swamiji). Swamiji is an American-born guru in the lineage of Bhagavan Nityananda of Ganeshpuri, India, and the director of the Shiva School of Meditation & Yoga, near Melbourne, Victoria.

Swamiji often talks about the moment that started his journey to India - "In 1970, I met the American yogi, Ram Dass, at a dinner party. He regaled me with stories of the great beings he had met and learned from in India. It was a revelation to me that enlightened masters could exist even in the modern age. I felt convinced that if I could find one and accept him or her as my teacher I would be able to overcome the spiritual malaise that I suffered as a day-to-day reality. Later that year I set off in search of such a one."

Just as his teacher, the powerful and charismatic Baba Muktananda, Swamiji places a strong emphasis on the philosophy and practice of Kashmir Shaivism as well as on sadhana (spiritual practice), especially meditation, self-inquiry and japa (repetition of a mantra).

Swami Sharadananda is one of Swamiji's most experienced students, and is also an accomplished academic with a PhD in Linguistics. For the first time in Sydney, Swami Sharadananda will be offering the teachings of the Shiva Yoga lineage and her workshop will focus on the practical application of spirituality in daily life, with emphasis on these techniques:

Guided chakra meditation (with accompanying CD)
Mantra meditation; and
Breath meditation
She will delve into meditation-related topics, such as working with the mind and emotions; the relationship between the inner world and the outer world; 'being present'; and true empowerment.

Throughout the duration of the workshop, you are welcome to ask questions and receive advice. The participants will receive a complimentary copy of guided meditation CD which will aid successful meditation practice at home.

The Shiva Yoga Lineage is a living path of inner transformation. It is an approach to living with a high level of awareness, intelligence and compassion. Immerse yourself in the spiritual energy (Shakti) of a mystical lineage of Bhagavan Nityananda, the sage of Ganeshpuri, who was a yogi of the highest attainment.

This workshop is perfect for beginners and experienced meditators alike and all are welcome to come along. To make a booking please complete the booking form online or call (03) 9775 2568. The participation fee is $85.00 or $75.00 for concession card holders.
