Come and join an innovative, community-based cooking program

Jamie's Ministry of Food Mobile Kitchen is back at Edith Cowan University Joondalup Campus!

Due to popular demand, Jamie's Ministry of Food WA mobile kitchen is returning to Joondalup for the third time in as many years. The program is delivered by The Good Foundation and supported by Edith Cowan University as part of a three-year partnership which provides funding to support the delivery of the program throughout Western Australia.

After successful visits to various West Australian locations including Edith Cowan University's Mount Lawley and South West (Bunbury) campuses, the kitchen classroom on wheels is back at ECU's Joondalup Campus running cooking classes for Perth locals!

Jamie's Ministry of Food Mobile Kitchen delivers hands-on basic cooking classes led by a team of dedicated Food Trainers, with the support of ECU students, interns and volunteers.

ECU Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Strategic Partnerships) Professor Cobie Rudd says a key part of the partnership is the involvement of ECU health science, education, nutrition and dietetics students who work as Jamie's Ministry of Food interns.

Professor Rudd says: "The internship provides each student with a unique integrated learning experience through a focus on healthy eating, positive mental health and social inclusion and connectedness. 45 ECU health students have interned with Jamie's Ministry of Food since April 2016, gaining over 1200 hours of real world experience within the health and nutrition industry."

ECU Health Science student Krystal Kotkis interned with Jamie's Ministry of Food during the Mobile Kitchen's first Joondalup location visit. Krystal, now a Food Trainer aboard the Mobile Kitchen, said, "My internship with Jamie's Ministry of Food made me job-ready. The first class I experienced as an intern included participants from a community group focused on mental health. Seeing how proud they were of their cooking, and what they had created, along with watching food literacy and food security theories implemented, solidified what I had learnt in class. The real world experience put my text book knowledge into practice and well prepared me for my job as Food Trainer".

This innovative, community-based cooking program is based on Jamie Oliver's beliefs about cooking and the associated impact on healthy living.

Cooking is a life skill which should be accessible to all and with Jamie's Ministry of Food Mobile Kitchen, you and your family will be inspired to eat healthier each and every day.

Jamie's Ministry of Food Mobile Kitchen will be located in the carpark 14 at Edith Cowan University Joondalup Campus, between Building 21 & 22 Access from Deakin Road via Lakeside Drive, Joondalup, WA 6027.

Day, evening and weekend classes begin on Thursday April 26th with one 90 minute class per week, for 7 weeks.

Each class has a maximum of 12 participants and is completely hands on so you get to see, smell, feel and taste everything that you cook!

Classes cost $20 per session ($140 total course cost), $15 for student card holders ($105 total course cost) and $10 for concession ($170 total course cost).
