With Roller Derby becoming even more prominent as the sport of choice for alternative girls all over Brisbane, local skate rinks are brimming with options for both adult and child learn to skate classes.

Luckily, we Brisbaneites are spoilt for choice when it comes to skate rink options, however some of the most popular choices are as follows:

Sk8mania, in North Lakes, offers $8 lessons on Saturdays between 9:00 and 10:00am and $5 lessons on Thursdays between 3:30 and 4:00pm. Both of these prices include skate hire, and the lessons are made up of small groups ensuring a fair amount of one-on-one instruction. They are also suitable for all ages and any level of skating ability.

Bundamba Skateaway has just this year recovered from the devastation incurred from the 2011 floods, yet its doors have opened to a spectacular rebuild with the same reliable, local service and smiling faces the residents of Ipswich have come to recognise.

Every Saturday the Certificate Program is run from 9:00 to 10:00am for $14 (an additional $4 required for skate or blade hire). This star classing is run by qualified coaches and ranges in ages, teaching two-year-olds and ninety-year-olds how to skate. The Skateaway Star Class Program has 4 levels, which commence at a basic skating level and then gradually progresses through to more involved technical items as you pass through each of the star tests.

For a slightly more laid back approach, Skateaway also holds a ladies only skate night on Tuesdays between 6:00 and 7:00pm, which also offers a bit of light instruction for only $10, including skate hire.

Skateaway is also well known for it's disco skate nights, teen skate nights and various other social skate events.

Digi Skate Rink in Hillcrest also holds the Certificate Program at the same times.

Lastly, Stafford Skate Centre holds learn to skate lessons on Saturday mornings 9:00am to 10:00am for a cost of $11 - which includes the general skate session after the lesson - as well as on Wednesday evenings, from 6:00pm until 7:00pm for $10, with no general session following.

So, there you have it. There's no excuse not to get out there, get your skates on and get fit while having a whole lot of fun!
