Written by one of my beloved writers, Hanif Kureishi and directed by Roger Mitchell.

Le Week-End tells the story of an older couple Nick (played by Jim Broadbent) and Meg (played by Lindsay Duncan).

Nick and Meg have been married for thirty years and decide to return to Paris (where they long ago had their honeymoon) in the hope of rekindling their love.

As the viewer is invited inside their marriage, one realises that they are both neurotic, oddbods, (one a lecturer and the other a high-school teacher) who are constantly 'at' each other.

Meg's constant nagging and childish behaviour made me wonder why Nick had stayed married to her at all.

The writing has some awkward moments, as do the actors and we don't get to see the beauty of the picturesque Paris that I love and know.

Obviously this film wasn't my cup of tea. Jeff Goldblum was a breath of fresh air as one of Nick's former students but even he couldn't save this film.

I wouldn't bother going to the cinema to watch this film, save your money and wait for it to be released on DVD.
