We were eager to explore Bowen, a town located a bit over an hour from Airlie Beach, where we were staying on our weekend getaway to the Whitsunday Coast. We arrived on the outskirts of Bowen in the early afternoon, where we took some obligatory pictures of the Big Mango.

We were starving by this stage and had done a quick google search to find out where the locals went for a bite. I saw good reviews for which also happened to be a florist. Stepping into the coffee house, the floral arrangements and grassy decor, even on the ceilings made this restaurant-florist collaboration more evident.

We were given menus to peruse and we could not have ordered any quicker (perhaps because we were all starving). I went up to the counter to order a zucchini and bacon frittata, a chicken panini on Turkish bread and an Eggs Benny with bacon.

I was a little taken aback by the lack of service in the cafe. I brought to my own table: table water, napkins, share plates and spare cutlery.

The zucchini and bacon frittata was my favourite dish. It was loaded with a side salad of lettuce, feta cheese, onions and sundried tomatoes.

The chicken in the panini was done well as it was tender and well seasoned. It was also balanced with smashed avocado.

I am always hesitant to order Eggs Benny for fear of disappointment in the poached eggs. This time, it was a little overcooked with the yolk, refusing to ooze when poked. It did make quite the presentation, resembling a curious face.

We then ordered a House Belgian Waffle.

When it first came, the waitress said it was a Canadian Belgian Waffle which was not what we ordered but she simply brought it back with no fuss and soon after, arrived with the House Waffle which was beautifully presented. It had chocolate syrup, honeycomb pieces and a generous scoop of ice-cream. This was delicious.

Overall, I was quite impressed by the aesthetic presentation of all the dishes but not as much by the quality of the food or service. I liked the quiet ambience of the restaurant and it had a pleasant and inviting decor.
