A warm morning, a beautiful day in Sydney and the lovely location of the Rocks calls for breakfast at Le Pain Quotidien.
This international chain all the way from Belgium is known for its fresh bread, organic food & warm atmosphere.
Le Pain Quotidien (the daily bread) is located right opposite the MCA at the Rocks. The old police station building converted to become the restaurant adds a lot of character to it.
First stop - the coffee litmus test.
Result = pass.
The coffee is great and comes in a bowl. Be aware of the sizes when ordering your coffee, a small size is much closer to a generous regular.
Fresh lemonade didn't disappoint at all. In a little 0.5 litre jug, it did wonders to quench thirst on a warm day.
The array of freshly baked bread provides plenty of choice. Wheat, Rye, Spelt, 5-Grain or sourdough. Apart from being known for the different varieties of breads, the boulangerie is popular for their tartines. The open faced sandwich comes with interesting toppings like the smoked ocean trout and avocado, quinoa and beetroot caviar or avocado and chia seeds. It offers a number of vegetarian options too, in the botanical section of the menu.
The quality of food is unwavering. Always fresh, always top notch. The service is pretty good too although it does sometimes depend on how busy they are.
They also have condiments, tea and beautifully packaged gift boxes and items for sale.
