I'm a sucker for French accents, french pastries, French food and french petit fours. All of these are in top supply at Le Bon Choix, a French cafe and patisserie in Latrobe Terrace, Paddington. Situated in the Art Deco building which used to house the Commonwealth Bank Le Bon Choix supplies a little bit of French elegance right here in Brisbane.



The inside is painted gleaming white with clear display cabinets for the food and cafe seats that are reminiscent of France. One of my favourite features is the retro bike with baguettes and other breads in its baskets, front and back. This makes me feel that I've ridden my bike from my lovely cottage in the French country to the store to buy supplies for the week. This all makes for a serene atmosphere although you will find you are sharing this popular cafe with a number of other diners.



I often drop in here for coffee and it is always good. A perfect companion for a quick cup of coffee is one of their home baked macarons. These come in a wonderful array of flavours and so far I have sampled the salted caramel, cookies and cream, blueberry and lavender flavours and I still have quite a few new ones to choose from. The display makes a beautiful rainbow of brightly coloured macarons which is hard to resist.



If you'd like something a little more substantial you can also order a range of light meals including croque Monsieur and ham and cheese croissant as well as an enormous range of desserts such as the escargot (snail), almond croissants, white Mousse cake, eclairs and strawberry tarts.

If you are entertaining at home you can always duck in here and get a few treats to wow your guests. Two of my favourites are the caramelised onion sourdough and flourless chocolate cake. These are always a hit and often I have to buy two of each, one for me to taste test before the guests arrive and one to share with the guests.
