As the winner of the best Indian restaurant in South Australia, Laxmi's Tandoori Indian Restaurant truly lives up to its award. The food is authentic, creative and above all outstanding. Menu choices include tandoori dishes, traditional curries, biryanis and bread among other items. We dined in recently and were not disappointed. As an added extra, the staff was very courteous too.

My southern Indian beef madras curry had a beautifully balanced sauce that wasn't too hot. The use of chilli was definitely moderate. It was cooked with coconut, mustard and ground spices. Its orange colour was distinct. Being a lunch special, rice was served as an accompaniment to the dish.

My friend's lamb korma was extremely tender. The meat was braised with coconut milk and garam masala producing a thick sauce that wasn't too oily.

As for drinks, we decided to try their mango lassi. The yogurt-based drink was deliciously thick and creamy. If you're not a fan of mangoes, the traditional lassi beverage can be infused with lychees or rose instead.

Sunday nights are dinner buffet nights at the restaurant. There are usually two entrees, four main courses, accompaniments and a dessert to choose from. The menu changes each week, so do follow their Facebook page to be in the know. I plan to return for this soon.

The restaurant can be found at 295 Glen Osmond Road in Glenunga. Opening hours are 11:30am - 2:30pm for lunch and 5pm - 9:30pm for dinner. Takeaway is available and orders can be placed online via their website . Table reservations are essential for the Sunday buffet and recommended at other times.
