A lot of community support and involvement is required, so lets all raise our hands to make the Launch of the 2017 Walk to Save Our Sons a huge success!. Let's see a huge line-up of people at the start line to cheer the walkers as they begin their 300km walk.
Mark
Tuesday 21 March, 7.15am in your diary and head to
the Queen Victoria Market Shed A, 513 Elizabeth St, Melbourne to cheer on father and founder of
Save Our Sons ,
Elie Eid and the
walkers as they embark on their arduous 300-kilometre walk around the Bay of Melbourne, to help raise awareness and funding for
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
On the morning, a delicious BBQ breakfast will be available for a mere gold coin donation to the charity. There'll be plenty to keep the kiddies happy with activities like face painting, jumping castle, balloons and a mini fitness workout, not to mention raffles and giveaways.
SOS charity walk runs over 11 days, so a show of support along the way from you the community can only help raise the spirits of the walkers as you meet them and dive into community events to show your appreciation.
Invite friends and family, the more the merrier. There'll be media, radio, fun activities, and of course, all the amazing walkers at the major
Chemist Warehouse stores listed further down.
For part of the way on this 11-day journey,
Elie, accompanied by celebrities and supporters, will be pushing his 12-year-old son
Emilio in a wheelchair. Diagnosed with Duchenne in 2006, a severe muscle wasting condition, this event highlights that it affects 1 in 3500 boys and is the number 1 genetic killer of young boys worldwide and affects girls in rare cases. To date, it has no cure and no one survives.
Funds raised from this event will go towards medical equipment; place a specialised Duchenne nurse in every Australian children's hospital; fund scientific research and clinical trials to find a cure. This 300km walk around the bay along with a gala event at Melbourne's Crown Palladium aims to raise up to $1.2 million and in some part to fund a specialist nurse at the
Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne for a 3rd year.
