In some ways emergency medicine doctors are the unacknowledged heroes of our healthcare system. They work long, extremely stressful hours under extreme pressure and their decisions can mean life or death for a patient.
Now for the first time ED doctors are speaking out in their own words.
'Emergency: Real Stories from Australia's Emergency Department Doctors' is an insightful new book, published by Penguin RandomHouse.
It features 40 stories written by emergency doctors about their lives on the front line of healthcare.
A FREE book launch event will be hosted by Avid Reader Bookshop on 24 November 2015 and will be led by Brisbane doctor and writer Dr Peter Aitken.
Held from 6.00pm, Dr Peter Aitken will discuss the challenges of advocating for patient care in Queensland and reading his story from the book, 'Pregnant Again'.
He'll be joined by the book's editor Dr Simon Judkins and the President of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine, Dr Anthony Cross, who will also be reading their contributions to the book.
The event will conclude with an Q & A session.
