My hubby and I were looking for a nice restaurant for dinner in the Rockingham area. We looked at some online review sites and decided to try Latitude 32 or "L32" as it was one of the higher rated restaurants along the Rockingham foreshore. It was classified as mainly seafood on some of the review sites however, an inspection of their menu showed they offered a grill section, as well as chicken and ribs. They describe themselves as "upmarket steak and seafood by the water" so we decided it sounded like a good venue for a romantic dinner.
Upon arrival we were offered the choice of a table inside or outside. We chose to dine inside as it was a windy evening. We were given a booth seat which was raised and gave a nice view of the ocean and jetty. It was a little stuffy inside and there didn't appear to be airconditioning, although they did have fans.
We were presented with the menu quickly and our drink orders were taken.
We decided to skip the entrees as it was largely seafood and we aren't huge seafood lovers. We did however order some bread with balsamic vinegar and dukkha for starters and chose to add two of their dips as well.
Latitude 32 Bread Starter Plate with Dip
We enjoyed the starter, although with only two of us there was quite a lot of bread and we didn't get through it all. It would be great to share amongst a table of four.
For our mains we ordered: BBQ RIBS twice baked American style pork ribs glazed in sticky bourbon BBQ sauce, with chips and homemade coleslaw and the CHICKEN BALLOTINE free range chicken breast wrapped in bacon with a lemon & chorizo stuffing, with roasted garlic mash potatoes and broccolini.
The food arrived in reasonable time, minus the side of croquettes. When we inquired about it, it turned out the waitor had forgotten the side. The wait staff don't write the orders down, so perhaps that happens when the waitors are required to memorise the order. It wasn't a big drama but if you were with a bigger group it could be. They were apologetic and it soon arrived.
I found the chicken ballotine to be a little dry and couldn't taste much of the lemon in the stuffing but it was still enjoyable. Perhaps not the 'equisite' food experience that their website claimed but still a tasty meal.
The BBQ ribs were lovely and tender and well cooked with nice flavours.
The Chorizo Croquettes were delicious but certainly had a kick to them. We like spicy food so we enjoyed them as an addition to our meal.
We were pretty full after our mains but decided to share a dessert. The dessert menu consisted of a lot of ice cream options. In the end we settled on their Tiramisu Ice cream dessert special (more ice cream!) but it was perfect for sharing and was an enjoyable light dessert.
Overall, I enjoyed Latitude 32. The location was gorgeous with the waterfront view and beautiful sunset over the jetty. The food was good and the service was friendly. It was definitely a pleasant and enjoyable dining experience, though possibly not as upmarket and exquisite as they claimed.
