So you want to be a writer or journalist, have already begun your journey, or are putting it off because of self-doubt? Well, like many established writers, journalists or media personalities, getting involved is the first step in pursuing the ultimate dream. Whether you're interested in story writing, fiction, non-fiction, children's books, fashion, food writing, or world news, there's always something to learn. These events held in Adelaide aim to provide writers with advice on where and how to start and what's needed to succeed in the industry.

Dedicated to all emerging novelists, How to Plot a Novel will run over two days, with professional published authors Carla Caruso and Samantha Bond offering two two-hour practical writing workshops. If you already have an idea for a novel, short story or even film script, Carla and Samantha can help you cultivate an outline, whilst offering tips on how to build an in-depth plot that will differentiate your story Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online at Eventbrite. Located in Goolwa, approximately 1 hour away from the city of Adelaide, Writers' Masterclass with Cate Kennedy is a great opportunity for emerging writers to meet an award winning author and acquire first-hand advice from an acclaimed professional who's work is renowned worldwide. Cate Kennedy is best known for her books Dark Roots, Like a House on Fire and The World Beneath. Similarly, she predominantly writes short stories, but has also written novels, a memoir, poems, and also works as an editor. TWELVE is a writers event like no other; a twelve-hour lock in challenge that aims to push writers to their limits by unlocking their inner creativity, ideas and undiscovered motivation. As writers, we often complain of distractions and finding the time to just sit and write. By participating in this lock in workshop, you'll discover that it's possible, and within 12 consecutive hours; a truly unique and special event that could potentially be a life-changing day for many aspiring writers who are in the midst of 'writer's block' or haven't yet managed to put pen to paper. TWELVE is hosted by SA Writers Centre in Rundle Street and will be held on Saturday, 28 May 8:00 am until 8:00 pm. Tickets are $80 for members and $90 for non-members.

Lastly, join top-selling novelist, Fiona McIntosh, as she hosts one of her popular writing Masterclasses 'The Emotional Connection'. This workshop will predominantly focus on women's fiction, commercial fiction, how to instigate a response in the reader through the emotional notions explored, and how to establish a believable story with abundant sensory information that lures the reader. Fiona McIntosh is one of Australia's most distinguished fiction novelists, who's work is also recognized worldwide. Her previous masterclasses held in Adelaide have been successful sell-out events, with many eager writers from Australia wanting to learn Fiona's style and technique.
