Q and A - [Late Night] Panel Show
If you haven't experienced the humor and energy of
Late Night Panel Show yet, then might I suggest that you give them a go on one of the weekend nights when you're out frolicking in the Fringe realm? With each show providing a one-of-a-kind spice that brings the flavours of five hand-picked comedians together, be prepared for a free-flow show of unscripted laughs, intriguing conversations, and mayhem.
In anticipation of their upcoming participation at the Adelaide Fringe Festival 2021, I was fortunate enough to have a brief Q and A with
Benjamin Maio Mackay around
Late Night Panel Show - have a read of our exchange below:
Tema: Welcome back to Adelaide Fringe 2021 - how have things been since we last spoke?
Ben: It's definitely been a tough year for comedy and comedians (and live performance in general), so it hasn't been the greatest year - but I think that'll make our triumphant Fringe return all the more exciting!
Tema: Which notable performers are you hoping to involve in this year's LNPS(s)?
Ben: We've already booked some incredible guests including award-winning comedians like Bella Green, Gordon Southern, Eliza Thomas and Amy Hetherington. You never know who you might see at Late Night.
Tema: Since first introducing LNPS to your audience, how has the concept of the show evolved?
Ben: The concept hasn't really evolved a whole lot if we're being honest - one of the biggest changes will be this coming year actually. We won't be able to have any physical audience/comedian interaction, which has played a part in previous years. This year it will lean a lot more into its roots of borrowing games from other panel shows like; Mock the Week, Whose Line and Would I Lie To You. Imitation is a form of flattery right? The other change this year will be Andrew Silverwood won't be hosting due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. Benjamin Maio Mackay who has been team captain will be stepping up and Evan Desmarais (assuming Sydney travel borders allow) will be replacing Benjamin as team captain.
Tema: How did COVID-19 impact your ability to share the talents celebrated via LNPS with your audience and how do you think you got through the pandemic-ridden year?
Ben: As a Fringe show, we were lucky! We completed our scheduled performances just before restrictions and lockdown came in - so COVID didn't affect us delivering the show. I know for a while we doubted being able to do it for 2021. However, we are so thankful it's worked out - even if it will be a little different. I think we survived the pandemic ridden year just like everyone else did - with lots of crying and drinking!
Tema: As a first-time attendee of your show, what can your prospective audience members expect by watching LNPS?
Ben: Five comedians, one ticket price, lots of games, utter chaos!
Tema: How long have you been performing with Adelaide Fringe and what has the experience / journey been like so far?
Ben: This will be Late Night's fifth consecutive Adelaide Fringe - we love it, we'll be doing it as long as audiences keep coming to the show!
Tema: What are you anticipating from your performance at ADL Fringe 2021?
Ben: We never anticipate anything from these shows! We hope both audiences and performers have a good time with it - that's all! It's just fun and sometimes that's what you need (especially in a COVID world).
Tema: Is there anything else that you'd like us to know about yourself and LNPS?
Ben: Come see the longest consecutive running panel show in Fringe - you won't regret it (we hope)!
