I like to participate in life rather than be a spectator. Music, dancing, theatre, travelling, food, cycling and walking are some of my passions. Writing is an enjoyable pastime that allows me to share my experiences.
If you enjoy movies that have a heart go and see Last Christmas. The original screenplay was written by Emma Thompson and her husband Greg Wise and also stars Emma Thompson as the displaced and depressed mother of the main character. Released in Australia on 7 November, Last Christmas is a rom-com with a difference that has a running time of 104 minutes.
The main character, Kate/Katarina, the sulky elf, is played to perfection by Emilia Clarke, who also has a lovely singing voice. Kate works in a shop where it is always Christmas and the boss is called Santa, but she has lost her "ho ho ho" mojo and her life is on a downward spiral.
In the midst of her homelessness, family issues and one night stands she meets Tom (Henry Golding), who provides much needed guidance and hope for a better future.
The movie is beautifully shot with London twinkling under a million fairylights, the soundtrack is fun and uplifting and there are plenty of one-liners and light hearted visual gags.
Last Christmas is a feel good movie that is also a social and political commentary dealing with real human issues and emotions.
