If you've ever played paintball then you'll know this: it hurts.

For an equally thrilling, adrenalin-pumping, heart-pounding experience minus the bruises, look no further than laser skirmish.

Laser skirmish, also known as laser tag, presents a similar concept and objective as paintball (i.e teams shooting at each other) but uses infra-red technology. Players undertake mock missions using infra-red guns to shoot at infra-red sensitive targets worn by each player.

If that doesn't sound exciting enough, how does playing laser skirmish inside an empty prison sound?

Not too far from Sydney, is the historical Maitland Gaol. Maitland Gaol has housed some of Australia's most notorious criminals, including George Savvas and Ivan Milat who planned an escape together in 1997. It has been closed as a correctional facility since 1998.

From 4pm, Maitland Gaol opens its doors for those who dare to play laser skirmish in the deserted cells.

Groups are divided into two teams, who are encouraged to devise a strategy before embarking upon their mission to defeat the other side. Each player is given a state of the art gaming gun. There are six different types to choose from all with different functions and features.

Laser skirmish at Maitland Gaol is a great idea for a group get together with friends, a work function, birthday parties, hen's nights, buck's nights and other celebrations.

Prices are around $39 per person and include your equipment use including unlimited ammunition.
