Ever since I started watching How I Met Your Mother, which is about six years now, I have wanted to play Laser Tag - because the legendary Barney Stinson was the game's biggest advocate. I was always up for it, suggested it a dozen times. But always, it seemed, to the wrong people.
Finally, I found the right audience in my cousin. For her twentieth birthday, we gathered up a group of six, including us, and went off to play Laser Tag at Northland Shopping Centre (next to PlayZone). We each paid for two games and went into the waiting room. I was super excited - the anticipation was very high.
The man in charge came into the room after a while and went through a short introductory film with us to ensure we knew all the rules. Then he let us in to gear up. We decided to keep is as individuals, rather than teams, because we thought it'd be much more fun.
Once we'd each donned a vest, we took up a gun and entered the arena. The atmosphere in the arena is incredible. It's all pitch black and the multi-coloured lasers cut through the darkness awesomely. Well, we spread out, trying to find a spot we could shoot best from. A lady's voice rang out of the speakers, counting down from three. It came to one and then chaos erupted.
Loud, dangerous music exploded from the speakers, the lasers went haywire, and we could be heard running about and already huffing and puffing.
The game was a fantastic one, better than I'd even imagined, really. I came second, sadly. And we were all puffed-out and hot after the game, we could barely catch our breaths. The most wondrous feeling, really. In our second game we were joined by three boys and we decided to all go in groups of three, since there were six of us, as well. We were wrong about individuals being more fun. It was definitely more fun in a team. My team can second place, yet again. The boys turned out to be seasoned professionals and so they took out the title.
It was absolutely fantastic fun and I recommend it, wholeheartedly if you want a group activity. However, I suggest you wear something it is easy to run around with - and good shoes! Definitely.
