I'm a mother of four with two coeliac children. I'm always on the lookout for great gluten-free spots around Brisbane and feature gluten-free cooking in my blog: coeliacfamily.blogspot.com.au I'm also a muso and enjoy live music around town.

Weekend Warriors Have Heaps of Fun

Weekend Warriors get geared up

It's a peaceful Sunday morning in the bushland near Lake Kurwongabah. Birds are chirping in the trees, occasionally the call of a cockatoo can be heard. Suddenly the peace is shattered by the sound of gunfire and the screams of children. You feel like you have been transported to a warzone, but no, the screams are followed by laughter. It's Laser Commando.

Catering for team building and birthday or break-up parties. This is a fantastic outdoor activity for all ages. The staff at Laser Commando are dedicated to providing safe, respectful and fun games for want-to-be warriors of all ages. Rather than sitting in front of the game machine at home for hours on end, children are out and about, planning tactics, breathing the fresh air and most of all, having fun.

Teenage Fun and Fitness

Sessions last for two hours, and during that time participants get to play a number of different games combining tactics and skill. Equipment is provided and your only requirement is to wear long pants and closed in shoes. All levels of fitness are suitable to play. Make sure you bring water for regular recharges between games. You can book a group or choose to join an existing game. The bushland provides excellent natural cover from enemy fire, and there are number of pallet bases built for extra protection.

If you don't want to make the journey (only 40 mins from city centre), you can choose to hire a pack for your party at home, which contains everything you need to run your own games, such as capture the flag and capture the base. Packs include all of the equipment you need, including instructions. Staff can also be booked to run the games for you, leaving you to sit back and sip your tea while war games rage around you!

Age is no restriction

The staff ensure safe play and help coach in tactics so the games don't end up in a free-for-all. It was great to see smiles on the faces of all of my boys, ages ranging from eight to fourty-something at the end of the morning, their faces flushed from good old-fashioned physical exertion. Despite the technology and sound effects, these games are not so different from the childhood games I remember such as cowboys and indians and cops and robbers!

There are a number of different pricing options available, but the basic price is $25 for a two hour session, which includes hat, phaser and sensor hire. Disposable camouflage coveralls are also available for and additional $5, as is table and chair hire. There are discounts for larger groups and for all of the pricing options, visit LASER SKIRMISH BRISBANE .To see some of the action for yourself, check out the Youtube video below and see how much fun you and your family could be having next weekend.
