Puppet show meets pop concert

Tim Sharp first came to my attention when a friend recommended a book called A Double Shot of Happiness by Judy sharp, his mother. The book is Tim Sharp's extraordinary journey from being diagnosed with autism to becoming an internationally renowned artist. Tim was born to draw and it makes him happy. His drawings (or visual puns) make me happy, and a hell of a lot of other people too. When he was a child he was obsessed with superheroes, as are most kids, and he created the colourful character Laser Beak Man. Laser Beak Man has been made into an animated TV show and now the visually spectacular stage paly is coming to QPAC.

Oh no - local hero Laser Beak Man has lost his superpowers and has to save Power City before his old mates destroy everything The world of Laser Beak Man is brought to life in puppet form by the brilliant folk of Dead Puppet Society. (See my article on these creative geniuses who brought Mr Percival the pelican to life in Storm Boy). You'll be amazed at the cutting edge digital imagery and spectacular free-flying AirOrbs by David Morton and Nicholas Paine. The stage play also features live music composed and performed by Sam Cromack (Ball Park Music). Sort of puppet show meets pop concert.

There is a laid back attitude to noise; and lights, while dimmed, remain on throughout the performance. catch the post-show Q & A with the artists following Friday 4th October, 7.00 pm performance. The performance lasts for 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Want to see more of Tim Sharp's work? There is a traffic signal box he painted in Brisbane (can you find it?); he has a humorous range of greeting cards (I buy them at the Gift Shop at Queensland Children's Hospital) and you can read Double Shot of Happiness. You can thank me later.
