Las Vegas is one of those mythical places in our collective consciousness that has a very particular image. Most of us see it as a fascinating concoction of gambling, bright lights, Elvis impersonators and impromptu weddings. It's a city of party people, and while incredibly fun, it's definitely not the first choice of families looking for a wholesome holiday destination. However, while Las Vegas is all that, it's much more too. It's definitely a place where you could take the entire family, and rest assured that everyone is going to have the time of their lives. Here are just a few ideas on stuff to do if you decide to take your kids on an unforgettable trip to Vegas.
Look for adventure
Las Vegas has earned its reputation as one of the best places on the planet when it comes to fun. There are plenty of spots to take your kids if you are looking for excitement. Check out the indoor trampoline park for an adrenaline-filled day of jumping and hopping. While you're there, your little daredevils can try out the indoor zip line as well. In a similar vein, you could visit the Adventuredome at Circus Circus, one of the biggest theme parks in the United States. Apart from the roller coasters, you can try out the indoor course for mini golf, and even laser tag.
See the animals and plants
Vegas is stuck in the middle of the desert, some 275 miles from the nearest beach, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy fascinating ocean creatures while you're there. Just head out to the Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay. The aquarium is host to some 15 species of sharks, and numerous other water dwellers, such as stingrays, sea turtles and piranhas. Those who prefer land animals definitely shouldn't miss the Lion Habitat Ranch, where they can see and feed these impressive kings of the animal realm. If you are not one for excitement, but are rather more interested in plant life, there are always the lovely botanical gardens of the Bellagio Hotel. Botanical gardens inside a hotel? Only in Vegas!
**Cool yourself off
**
It can get hot in the desert, and, normally, there's not a natural body of water in sight. Luckily, Vegas has some pretty awesome water parks to help you and your little ones survive the heat. It's hard to choose between Cowabunga Bay and Wet'n'Wild Las Vegas, but whichever one you opt for, you'll love it. Both offer dozens of rides, slides, pools, lazy rivers and other wet and cool delights.
Soak in some culture
If you can't exactly hop on the first plane to Europe, perhaps you could witness some of the Old Continent's most famous attractions in Vegas. There, you can take your kids to the Eiffel Tower – or at least its half-sized replica, complete with an observation deck at the top. The view at night is absolutely breathtaking, even before you reach the top, since you will be going up in a glass elevator. If Italy is more your thing, take a ride in a gondola, through the gorgeous canals of the Venetian Hotel. If your kids love celebrities, take them to Madame Tussaud's, where they can pose for pictures with all of their favorite stars –made of wax.
**See a show
**
Vegas shows are the stuff of legends. The world's biggest stars, like Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, and Jennifer Lopez regularly have residencies there. If your kids aren't that into music, there's probably something else on, that will pique their interest – for instance, the acrobatics of a Cirque du Soleil show or Penn and Teller's magic tricks.
In some ways, Vegas is the perfect destination for a family holiday. There's so much to see and do, that there's no need to worry whether anyone will be bored. It's certainly a unique place, and your kids are sure to enjoy all of the glitz, glamor and brightness of this artificial heaven on earth.
