If you love a good feed, cheerful service and ocean breezes, you will feel right at home in Lark. The open-plan cafe is situated just out of view of the ocean, separated from the beach by a stretch of parkland. But the views are still lovely and, with its shutters open wide, the sea breeze filters through, keeping the place cool even in the depths of summer.

Best service in Main Beach

Lark was my local cafe when I lived in Main Beach and it didn't take the staff long to know me by name. I am a creature of habit so they knew what I wanted and were onto preparing it the second I walked in the door. Now that I've moved away, they still remember me when I stop by. It's a special touch that always makes me feel welcome.

I've seen them do some really sweet things for customers over the years, making a special order every day for one elderly gentleman, helping one lady avoid a parking fine and assisting others with their puppy's needs.

I have had the pleasure of meeting many a charming canine at Lark as the cafe is welcoming of pets. The dog lovers sit outside, taking advantage of the bowls provided for water and food (and very kindly putting up with the adoration showered on their pets by those of us who love animals but can't have one of our own).

Even when the place is packed, the staff are always smiling and attentive and, somehow, they get the food out lightning fast. I've taken all sorts of human configurations with me to Lark, from single additions to massive herds of friends. Regardless of how many of us there are, the staff always orchestrate it so everyone's food comes out at the same time.

Lark was my local haunt for over a year, so this is scientifically sound data, based on repeated successful experiments. Lark seems to have hit the right formula for remaining consistently on-point with the happiness and speed of their service. A rare find for a cafe.

Does their food quality stand up to scientific scrutiny?

My habitual nature gives me the unique ability to provide accurate data on the reliability of Lark's offerings. I rarely stray from ordering an acai bowl and have found they are always delicious. They are simple but effective and I have never been disappointed at Lark.

I have eaten a lot of acai bowls in my time and have seen some hefty creations loaded with all sorts of crazy edible accessories (I've even had flowers on one). What Lark's lack in showmanship, they more than makeup for in taste and texture. Which is, after all, what matters most.

As far as the rest of the menu goes, what I can say is, the people I bring with me are always happy. The Eggs Benny used to be a knockout favourite among my friends but something happened a few months back (change of recipe perhaps?) and it's dropped from the number one position. I'm told it's still good but doesn't have that "special something" it used to. Eggs Benny fanatics are a strange and obsessive breed though.

If a good coffee is more important to you than the intricacies of Eggs Benedict, then you will certainly be happy at Lark. My regular status at the joint (and mild coffee obsession) mean I can tell you, scientifically, this place is consistently good with their coffee. I have never had a disappointing cup. The baristas are obviously well trained and it is delightful to be able to walk into a place, worry-free, knowing your coffee will be just the way you like it.
