Help them breathe easier
Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disorder which predominantly affects the lungs, but can also affect the pancreas, liver, kidneys and intestines. A malfunction of the exocrine system, there is no cure and it affects sufferers from birth.
Caused by a gene which is carried by 1 in 25 people, the gene must be inherited from both parents for a baby to be born with CF, with many individuals being unaware they are carriers. 1 in 2,500 babies in Australia are born with CF. Many people are carriers and don't know, which means there are about 1 million unaware carriers!

Cystic Fibrosis Australia works to improving clinical practice and patient outcomes through clinical improvement programs and research with the aim to extend the life expectancy of CF sufferers from 37 to 50 years by 2025. In order to do this, they need funding! So how can you help?
Great Strides is a great way to get involved and undertake a challenge together with others to help people with CF breathe a little easier. Participation is available for corporate teams, schools, community groups and individuals; this is a great way to get together with colleagues, family members and friends and walk, jog or run for a great cause.
On Sunday 24 November 2019, Great Strides will be at Largs Bay for a family fun day full of activities, entertainment and much more. Starting just south of the Largs Bay Jetty and Kiosk, runners and walkers can choose a 3 km, 5 km or 10 km route along the foreshore towards the North Haven Breakwater and then return to the jetty.
Starting the day bright and early, there will be a BBQ breakfast then registration opens at 8.30 am and closes at 9.10 am. Participants will warm up with Kyle Collis at 9.15 am before runners commence at 9.30 am and walkers at 9.45 am. Finish time is 11.30 am.
For your online registration fee of $35 (adult), $25 (child under 16) or $95 (family of 2 adults and up to 3 children) you will receive a bib and timing chip so that you can time your race and set your personal best. Online registration closes at midnight on Friday 22 November 2019. You can register on the day but this will incur an additional fee. Register early and start your fundraising.
Bring along a hat and sunscreen and don't forget your water bottle with refills available on the day via the hydration station. Great Strides merchandise is available for purchase at the website with Great Strides t-shirts, sizes XS – 2XL (8 – 18) for $15, water bottle $5 and cap $15. Merchandise can be collected either at the event or from the CFSA office at 143 Sturt Street, Adelaide.
There will be lots of activities, entertainment and delicious food available throughout the day for the whole family. It is recommended that participants arrive at least one hour before the Stride begins to ensure there is plenty of time to collect your bib, warm up and soak in the atmosphere. The MC will announce when to head to the starting line, but it is requested that you are there at least 10 minutes before your segment begins.
Bring your best buddy (furbaby) along on a lead and enter the Best Dressed Dog Competition. Entry is $5 with prizes awarded to the best-dressed dogs.
