As part of the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival, the Cherrybrook Chinese Community Association (CCCA) is proud to present the 2015 Lantern Night. The Lantern Night is a proud tradition of the local community and the CCCA welcomes residents from across Sydney to attend this event.

This year, the Lantern Night will be held on Saturday 26 September. This will be the eve of the Mid-Autumn Festival when traditionally people would gather to "welcome and greet" the full moon.


The Cherrybrook Lantern Night has been running for over 20 years and each year it just gets better and better. This year there will be a stack of great, free activities including:


There will be a performance by the Youth Alliance Volunteering Association (YAVA). YAVA is also organising a Rockstar Chef Food Waste cooking challenge - so why not sign up and show off your culinary skills.

The evening will culminate in an amazing fireworks display.


This year the Lantern Night will be held at Cherrybrook Technology High School, 28-44 Purchase Rd, Cherrybrook, from 2.30 to 9.00pm. Please note alcohol consumption is not permitted on school grounds.

With over 4,000 attendees last year it is sure to be a great night!

The Mid-Autumn Festival
The CCCA provides the following details on the Mid-Autumn Festival.

%%The Mid-Autumn Festival is a major traditional festival of the Chinese people. It took its present form some 1,400 years ago at the time of Tang Dynasty and has since been celebrated by all classes and by all walks of life. As its name suggests, it takes place in mid-autumn, on the fifteenth day of the eighth month of the Lunar Calendar, around the time of Autumn Equinox, in the northern hemisphere when the night sky is high, and the moon full.

In the Western calendar, the day of the festival occurs sometime between the second week of September and the second week of October. This year, it falls on 27 September. In the southern hemisphere, where we are, this is not autumn time. However, does this matter? The full moon is there. And, it is a time for fun and togetherness.%%
