Find the Most Haunted Melbourne Buildings?
Lantern Ghost Tours has just launched a new 'augmented reality' application which will both enhance the experience for people doing Lantern's tours and make information generally available to the public about Melbourne's 'most haunted' buildings. The app can be downloaded to your smartphone or tablet (iPhone and Android versions are available). And it's free!

First, a bit of background about Lantern Ghost Tours. They run nine different tours in various locations in Melbourne and on the Gold Coast, for varying durations. There is for example the ever popular Old Melbourne Ghost Tour, which starts from Federation Square and runs for 90 minutes. Or you could choose the Pentridge Prison Ghost Tour, a two hour tour, which has apparently been popular with former inmates and warders.

If you want to combine ghost chasing with a weekend away, try the Secrets of the Lost World weekend, to be held at O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat (Gold Coast hinterland) on the weekend of 13th - 15th June 2014. Yep, that's right, it starts on Friday the 13th....
The popularity of these tours and the interest in Melbourne's ghosts has encouraged Lantern to develop the augmented reality app. The app can be used in either 'history' or 'ghost' mode, depending on your area of interest. Navigate to the 'map' or 'location' page, and the app will give you information about the buildings in the area and their resident ghosts. (The database currently covers 15 city buildings.) You will also be able to view images of the buildings as they originally looked. Using the app, you could, for example, learn more about the 'Lady in White' at Federation Square, or 'Chloe' in Young and Jackson's Hotel, and you can see images of the original buildings on those sites.

A really fun aspect of the app is that it allows you to take a photo which includes your favourite Melbourne ghost! You can then share it on Facebook, Twitter or Google plus. Lantern Ghost tours would also love you to share it on their website.
The app supports five languages, and don't forget, it's free!
