Langkawi Chantique Resort

You are really spoiled for choice trying to decide on a place to stay at on Pulau Langkawi. The island is divided into a number of areas, each boasting its own unique character and attractions. For this annual holiday I take with my friends, we decided to stay in the Pantai Cenang area, because of its close vincinity to the restaurant hub of the island, as well as the airport.
We were drawn to
Langkawi Chantique by the wonderful reviews we read on TripAdvisor. Granted, the little resort is not next to a beach as you would expect on beautiful Langkawi, but it has a certain charm to it. The word 'chantique' is a play on the Malay word 'cantik', which means 'beautiful'.
It took us about fifteen minutes to find the resort from the airport in our rented car. The resort is a bit bigger than it looks on the outside - the main entrance building is hard to miss on the long, winding road we took among the small houses and paddy fields.
Chantique has paddy fields across and beside it, giving a sense of space and openness. Parking is provided for free, and we were relieved to walk into the reception area, away from the heat outside. We were greeted by a couple of smiling, friendly staff - everyone working here is so warm and welcoming. There were cold drinks provided for us while we waited to check in. So refreshing!
As there were five of us together on this trip, we opted for the
Family Room , which is essentially two
Superior Rooms joined together by a door in between. Our unit was facing the swimming pool on one end and the wall of the property on the other. You can request for an additional mattress, which is shown in the image above, for a fee.
The rooms are clean and airy. It's very no-frills, with a queen sized bed, TV, closet, and fridge. Some extra seating would have been nice inside the room, but they did have a wicker table and chairs provided in the porch area. It was nice to sit outside on the porch in the early morning while it's cool outside - but it's definitely a good idea to bring some mosquito repellent.
What's great about the Family Room is that it comes with two bathrooms! For five girls travelling together, you really can't ask for better. The ensuite bathrooms are clean, though one of ours had a slight damp odour that stayed even after housekeeping had the room cleaned. It wasn't strong, just a bit unpleasant.
You can expect the basic bathroom essentials here, such as soap, shampoo, lotion, cotton buds and so on.
The shower pressure was good, and all of us slept comfortably through both nights that we stayed here. The beds are very comfy.
Our unit was facing the saltwater pool - a moderately sized one located in the centre of the resort buildings. The pool closes at 8 pm, and we didn't get back from our day activities in time to have a swim, which was a shame. Maybe I will try it the next time I stay here.
Breakfast is provided with the room, and served at a little cafe area within the resort. The spread is simple, but satisfying - an assortment of breads and pastries, as well as sausages, beef bacon and main dish of rice or noodles, depending on the day. I enjoyed trying out the different tea sachets available, and there is also a little egg station where you can order your omelettes. The fried rice I had on the second morning we were there was particularly good. Very tasty!
Other guests at the resort were also making use of the shady cafe area to kick back with a novel, or just to unwind. Some bread is left out for the birds just beside the cafe, so you can relax in the chairs there and watch the little sparrows and white headed munias flitting about amongst the greens.
Granted, the beach is further away than most would like, but the location is pretty good if you have a car with you. Pantai Cenang itself, as one of the more popular beaches on the island, is only a couple minutes' drive away, and about 20 minutes' walk if you are willing. We really enjoyed our stay here, and everyone agreed that we would like to come back here again. The staff are friendly and helpful, and it's a very cosy spot, secluded and relaxed.
