A One-off Learning Day Extravaganza
You may or may not have heard of Melbourne based Laneway Learning, offering cheap informal classes in just about anything, which all take place at The Little Mule Cafe and Ferdydurke, both in the CBD.

Usually, classes take place on a weekday evening, however, the Laneway Learning team have recently announced an exciting weekend charitable event - a Laneway Learning Sunday Spectacular on 16th June.

The Sunday Spectacular is a chance to bring many of the wonderful people who have taught a Laneway Learning class (114 and counting), the wider community, and to raise money for a great cause along the way.

The event will run from 11am to 5pm on the 16th June and it is going be a day-long 'festival of learning' at which everyone is welcome. There will be a combination of scheduled, bookable classes and casual 'drop-in clinics', taking over four venues on Somerset Place for the day.

So far, classes that have been confirmed for the day include:

1. Anthropology in an Hour.
2. Glass and Paper Jewellery
3. Science of Roller Coasters
4. Collaborative Art: Drawing Together
5. Neuroplasticity: Brains on the Starting Block
6. Finding Your Style: A Renter's Guide
7. Braiding: It's As Easy As 1, 2, 3
8. Next Level Cupcakes: Using Fondant

The Laneway Learning team are also in the process of finalising other casual stalls and exciting bits and pieces including the following 'how to's:

…fold origami cranes
…up your chess game
…tell a good wine
…keep bees
…taste tequila and make verdita
…solve cryptic crosswords
…create balloon animals
…brew your own beer
…make the perfect cup of tea
…machine knit
…craft 3D paper flowers

At The Foundation for Young Australians (FYA) and Gallery One Three we will be hosting eight full Laneway Learning classes, which people can book in advance. While in the more relaxed surroundings of The Little Mule and Captains of Industry, there will be teachers on a more casual basis to advise, coach and chat with people over a coffee.

The formal classes will be the usual $12 plus materials, with small donations for everything else.

All proceeds from the day will help fund projects in rural and regional Australia that have been conceived by young Australians to benefit their local community. The specific projects will be selected and supported by the FYA through their 'Change It Up' program.

A great opportunity to learn a new skill on a Sunday, at the same time helping to raise funds for a worthwhile cause.

What a great idea to also take to regional towns like mine.

What a great idea for a city! This is brilliant. Didn't know about the weekly classes. Will have to give it a go at some point.
